In 2008, I joined the survey industry as a base engineer with a well-known international survey company. In 2009, I transitioned to the offshore branch of the company and have remained in this area, working as staff in two companies before deciding to diversify my work opportunities by becoming self-employed and starting JD Survey Tech Solutions Ltd in 2015.
During my time in this industry, I have been involved in world-first projects including the Hywind floating wind turbine installation and the decommissioning of the BP Miller oil rig, the first in the North Sea.
When I first struck out on my own, I felt confident that I knew how to provide excellent services to my clients. This flexibility allowed me to work across different industries and gain more experience.
Over the years, I have built strong relationships with my clients and have shown a keen interest in their technologies. Because of this, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge that I want to use to help the next generation of survey personnel.
I have been asked to train new survey personnel in various roles and want my business to be recognised as a reliable resource where potential clients can reach out to provide that service.
I work for myself, and I have worked with many clients over the years, all with different needs and ambitions, and my adaptability to these changing requirements has proven to be invaluable.
I have also been requested by previous clients to join new projects they are working on, giving me confidence that I am meeting their needs, that they trust me to complete the job, and that their employed staff are keen to work with me.
